An extremely rare silk tent-stitch valance (about 30% of textile represented on gallery image). Lightly and evenly worn, in exceptional condition for it's age. Original border intact. 15"x 82". Small sweet purse examples similar in design to this valence exist both at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (43.1075: late 16th-early 17th) and the MET in New York (29.23.15: early 17th c). The famous Oxburgh Hanging (circa 1570) by Mary Queen of Scots at the V&A London also shows similarities.
